Back Pain in Pregnancy is common and this can occur at any time, although from week 24 onwards as your body changes to accommodate your growing baby this can increase.

As the baby weight increase and due the babies position in the abdominal area, Pregnancy Back Pain can present in different areas throughout the back, hips and lower ribs, including the diaphragm, intercostal muscles, muscles along the spine, and shoulders can experience sharp shooting pains in these areas.

Myofascial release can alleviate the discomfort experienced in these areas.

Hip Pain and lower back discomfort during pregnancy can be muscular compensation, from the body releasing a hormone called relaxin, were the pelvic ligaments become looser, and the joints of the pelvis have more movement so the muscle aiding joint movement become tighter, leading to Pain or discomfort.

As baby grows, your posture changes, and your central point of balance changes, muscles need to work harder to compensate in the changing posture, these muscles when tight become fatigued, again creating muscle tension, discomfort and Pain. It is important to maintain good posture to ensure those aches and pains are kept under control.

Later in the pregnancy when side laying for sleeping puts pressure into the hips and shoulders, causing regular massage in these areas can ease the pressure points from sleep. It is recommended to place a "Dentons" pillow under your belly and to place a firm pillow between your knees. Alleviating pressure spots while getting a good night sleep.

Sciatica – is an irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve. This is common in pregnancy and can result in pain, numbness, tingling and burning sensation in the buttock and down leg as a far down as the feet. The piriformis muscle and sacroiliac joint are the main areas of focus when treating this condition, using myofascial release techniques to decrease tightness in these areas.

I just had my first pregnancy massage with Suzanne and walked out feeling great after having the best massage ever! It was almost like Suzanne was listening to my body and helping it rather then just a general massage you get everywhere else.
I’ve just booked my next 2 appointments in straight away as soon as I got home.
